Pre-High School Math Workshops

Math students may experience a significant gap in expectations when they go into high school math courses. The objectives of these workshops are to make the transition between elementary and high school math as smooth as possible by focusing key areas including numerical, algebra and problem solving skills.

January 2020 Workshop Topics

#1 Number Sense Workshop

Students are expected to gain mastery of the following topics:

  • Four operations of rational numbers (i.e. fractions, decimals and integers)
  • Exponents
  • Complex Fractions

#2 Algebra Sense Workshop

Students are expected to gain mastery of the following topics:

  • Exponent Laws
  • Distributive Property
  • Adding and Subtracting Polynomials
  • Solving Equations involving Fractions
  • Solving for a variable

#3 Applying Algebra Workshop

Students are expected to gain mastery of the following topics:

  • Translating Expressions and Equations
  • Solving Linear Word Problems Involving age, coins, geometry, digits, distance and percentage.
